Cabrillo refers to a universal log submission format created by Trey Garlough, N5KO. The complete specification can be found at http://www.kkn.net/~trey/cabrillo/.

Most logging programs support creation of Cabrillo format log files. Virtually all contests accept Cabrillo log files for electronic submission of logs.

The Cabrillo log file is an ASCII file that can be easily read or modified by any text editor (e.g., Notepad or Wordpad).

The Cabrillo format is designed specifically for submitting log information. It does not include any scoring or duping indiciations. The contest sponsor uses the information in the file to calculate and check the entrant's score. The file consists of a series of header lines that define the details of the log entry such as the call used, address, category, etc. The rest of the file contains one line for each QSO. Cabrillo specifies the tags. Each contest sponsor defines how they will use the tags and what information is accepted in each.

You may find two forms of the Cabrillo format in use: Version 2 and Version 3. The main difference is that Version 3 added additional fields for specifying the category information. Most log submission robots will accept either version, but the newer version 3 is preferred.

A sample Version 3 Cabrillo file is shown below.
